Actor Pamela Anderson says she felt "sick" after visiting Julian Assange in a British maximum security prison to support the jailed WikiLeaks founder.
Former Baywatch star Anderson visited Assange at Belmarsh Prison in southeast London on Tuesday morning, saying the 47-year-old had been unable to get out of his cell and that it was "very difficult" to see him.
"He does not deserve to be in a supermax prison, he has never committed a violent act," she told media outside the prison.
"He is an innocent person."
Anderson, 51, said Assange had no access to information and had been "cut off from everybody", including his own children.
"He's a good man, he is an incredible person," she said.
"I love him, I can't imagine what he has been going through."
Anderson has been a vocal supporter of Assange for a number of years, visiting him at the Ecuadorian embassy in London on several occasions before he was arrested and dragged out of it by police in April.
He is currently serving a 50-week jail sentence for a bail violation after seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2012, and last week indicated he would fight an extradition request by the US government over charges relating to the leaking of classified government material.
The US accuses Assange of conspiring with former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to crack passwords to gain access to the information, which was subsequently posted on WikiLeaks.
He faces up to five years in a US prison if convicted, but his lawyers believe he could face additional and more serious charges if handed to the Americans.
Assange will appear again in court on May 30, while the US is expected to reveal more extradition details before a June 12 case management hearing.
