'I love digging': Elderly man digs his own grave

An 89-year-old man has dug his own grave because he “loves digging”.

Jimmy Kickham has been digging most of his life after owning a construction company for almost 50 years.

He still works most days on Prince Edward Island, Canada, creating trenches and graves with the same digger he bought 45 years ago, reports CBC.

"I love digging. Just one of those things that gets into your system. It's just work. Money. No matter what they wanted dug, I could do it," he said.

Mr Kickham has dug countless graves already, and decided it would make sense to do his own.

“One day I was digging graves and I just thought I'd do my own if I lived to be 90,” he said. “So I'm 90 years of age and it's already done.”

Mr Kickham is 90 on Wednesday and remains in good health, so does not expect to be making use of his grave any time soon.

He hopes it will help his family remember him as a man with a sense of humour. “The grandchildren will know that their grandfather dug his own grave with his own backhoe at the age of 90,” he said.

“So that'll be something for them to carry around, won't it?”
