'I lost a close friend over my strict wedding guest rule - people say I'm unfair'

A woman has opened up about how guidelines specified in the FAQs section of her wedding invitations ultimately led to the end of a seven-year-long friendship, leaving people stunned.

Lifestyle influencer Cora Breilein recently shared how she'd made her answer to the question 'can I bring a date?' crystal clear in the invite, specifying that they would not be including a plus-one option for guests as they wanted their wedding to be "intimate".

In a screengrab of the guideline shared in a TikTok post, Cora's guests were advised: "If your partner is invited their name is included on your Save the Date and formal invitation." This rule, unfortunately, didn't go down too well with everyone.

Cora, who goes by the username @corabrei, revealed: "Lost a 7+ year friendship over not inviting a bf I never met. Our wedding felt so special and intimate knowing everyone there. It's worth weeding people that aren't interested in being part of your life, out."

Although many understood where she was coming from, a number of people were left startled by this revelation, and just couldn't understand why a person would risk losing a friendship over a plus-one rule.

One person commented: "Pure INSANITY if you can't bring your partner to a wedding if you're not married. So my partner of four years wouldn't be welcome? Wouldn't even attend."

Clarifying her position in a follow-up post, Cora addressed the criticism head-on, explaining: "It [was] just about [inviting] people who will be in our lives long-term.

"If I never met their boyfriend or girlfriend, I did not feel comfortable inviting them. I think what everyone needs to understand is the FAQs were there because we wanted to have an intentionally small wedding and we wanted to know every single person there.

"But a lot of people have a 'no ring, no invite' rule, and we were not that strict about that."
