‘I look like a slutty church lady’: NYC woman goes to wedding. Then she hides after realizing her boyfriend didn’t tell her the dress code

A woman hides in the hallway outside of a wedding reception after her boyfriend failed to inform her of the black-tie dress code. Viewers react to her bold outfit choice for the event.

In a video with over 1.7 million views, TikToker Bez (@dailybez) stands in the staff hallway amongst guests’ coats. Voulez-Vous by ABBA plays in the background with the chatter of other wedding guests in the reception hall.

“When I walked into this wedding, that is when I found out that it is black tie. Literally, every woman at this wedding is wearing a floor-length black gown,” she says.

What did she wear to the black-tie wedding?

Bez laments that her boyfriend didn’t tell her the dress code after she asked him, leading her to choose a colorful outfit. She steps back from the camera to show off her dress, an above-the-knee pink and blue dress with sheer draping.

She also wears white Doc Martens, since she can’t wear heels due to a leg injury.

“I look like a Kindergartener on her first day of school,” she jokes. “I look like a slutty church lady. Or I look like some kind of cartoon character that got brought to life.”

Bez says she plans to hide until the end of the event to avoid ruining the wedding pictures.

“I would not do this on purpose,” she says.

How did viewers react to her bold outfit?

In the comments, viewers share their shock at her choice of outfit, regardless of the dress code.

“This would work great for a jojo siwa concert,” a viewer jokes.

“I don’t know a wedding where this outfit would work for anyway,” another says.

“I gasped at the boots. what were you thinking? its a WEDDING,” a third writes.

However, many are empathetic to her mistake, pointing out a trend of women struggling to get accurate details from their boyfriends about events they attend. On the subreddit r/TikTokCringe, commenters say they’ve had similar trouble figuring out the dress code when their male partners are in charge of planning.

“I went to a wedding with my partner recently (his friend who I don’t know too well) and it was like pulling teeth just trying to find out what the dress code was. He could not understand why it would matter. Like is it formal? Is it cocktail? You lost the invitation? Can you call your friend and ask for me? I don’t want to show up over or underdressed. He was like ‘just wear a pretty dress,'” one shares.

Another commenter on Bez’s TikTok writes, “I would leave. Everyone else got the memo. This is on him.”

“I really didn’t think it would be so bad. But unfortunately I would leave and I wouldn’t be talking to my bf for a min,” a third suggests.
