A self-confessed "mean mom " has revealed how she turned her daughter's bedroom into a "mini jail" after growing fed up of her failing to tidy up.
Holly Brooke decided enough was enough after she gave her child one week's notice to clean her messy bedroom - only for her to completely ignore her requests.
So, she and her husband decided to take matters into their own hands, by cleaning up the room themselves, before locking away all her toys, clothes and games.
"I know this will probably p*** a couple of Gen Z’s off, but this is how we’re doing it in my house," Holly explained in a recent TikTok posted from her handle @hi_imholly.

"She is a pre-teen, she knows how to clean. We have trained her to clean and I have detail cleaned her room multiple times - she just chooses not to. She had a deadline today of 12 o’clock and here she is outside playing instead."
The camera then zoomed in on the youngster outside playing with friends, completely oblivious to what's going inside her bedroom.
Alongside having all her belongings locked away, Holly and her husband are implementing some rules for their daughter, including taking away the right to choose her clothes each morning.

Holly said: "I’m going to be picking out one outfit a day for her to wear and she has to wear it and that’s about it. She’ll get her stuff back in stages and I’m going to go through most her toys and get rid of a lot of them.
"Until then this is how it’s going to be because I’m tired of speaking over and over again about cleaning and she just doesn't."
Just as the mum predicted, she was met with mixed responses from people on TikTok, with many accusing her of going too far, or suggesting she should've offered her daughter more support with cleaning the room
"Did you ever question why your kid might have her room so strewn like this? Maybe she's overwhelmed by how much she has and you could help her donate," one TikTok user suggested.
Another added: "My mum always helped me clean my room because I was overwhelmed. I think you need to communicate with your daughter, maybe there is an underlying issue."
However, others praised her approach, with one commenting: "She obviously has no respect for her space so good job parents."
"As a parent you don't always get to be the nice guy and we have to teach hard lessons," another agreed.
