'I'll punch you all over': Topless drunk threatened officer and slapped ex-partner

Shirtless and mortal, Michael Snaith waded into the middle of the road and threatened a police officer he would "punch him all over".

The 33-year-old, of Mandela Close, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on July 2.

South Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard how Snaith was standing naked from the waist up in the street and approached the bonnet of an oncoming police car to prevent it moving.

Prosecutor Claire Irving said the officer 'tried to engage him' as Snaith shouted 'come on' at the car.

He then said to the officer 'take that baton off and I'll fight you, I'll punch you all over, get a proper job you daft ****'.

Snaith also admitted to slapping his ex-partner across the face, while telling the court he couldn't remember doing it.

When arrested for the domestic incident, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

In his mitigation, the court heard how Snaith had received distressing family news on the day of the drunk and disorderly offence and drank a significant quantity of vodka.

The ex-partner declined to make a complaint over the domestic incident.

Magistrate Gerald Tierney hit out and Snaith for not pleading guilty earlier, saying: "It was ill-judged to plead not guilty given you couldn't actually remember anyway."

The chairman added Snaith was 'lucky' his ex-partner had decided not to press charges.

He was ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation and comply with an electronically monitored curfew.

Snaith was also ordered to pay £395 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
