I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson - review

Okay, let’s start with a short summary of what this is about. This book is about a pair of twins, Noah and Jude, who during their growth from the ages of 13 to 16 something happened that made them stop talking. As you can imagine this book is told through both perspectives, through Noah when they were 13 and through Jude at the age they are now which is 16.

The reason why I chose this book to review is easy. I love Jandy Nelson’s writing in The Sky is Everywhere and when I heard about this book, I just couldn’t say no to it, and I’m so glad for that. This book was beautiful in full meaning of that word. I love the characters and how real and relatable they were, how they were flawed but never in a way that annoy you, but in a way you understood and just rooted for them to do better.

I'll Give You The Sun

I also enjoyed Jandy’s writing, how poetic and unique it was. How she described a situation and made you feel what the character was feeling and you just couldn’t help but fall in love with this book.

There’s also the themes that this book shows, now I’m not getting into full details because, you know, spoilers, but she portrays many important things. For example LGBT which in my opinion she portrays on point, the difficulty in accepting it and embracing it, but the freedom after doing it. I also enjoyed the sibling bonding, like even with their problems, I always enjoyed both the twins and just wanted one of them as my sibling, seriously.

And the ending, how everyone got what they needed. How the problem was resolved, maybe not to perfection but with a hopeful note. I literally started clapping in my room for it.

Overall this was an amazing read which I can’t recommend enough.
