'I'll embrace it', Howe happy to work with whoever Newcastle decide to bring in as director of football

Eddie Howe says he will "embrace" whoever Newcastle United decide to bring in over his head as director of football.

The Toon head coach watched on this week as United denied that former Chelsea supremo Michael Emenalo rejected a job offer although there were believed to be talks between the former Notts County defender and United according to his representaives.

Ajax's director of football Marc Overmars is also off the market now after he signed a contract with the Dutch giants until 2026.

When asked about the prospect of a director of football, Howe said: "I have no update.

"I don’t really think it’s for me to update you on that, I think that’s above me.

"I’ll work with whoever the club choose for that role and be excited to do so.

"It’s ultimately a position that the club want to fill and I embrace that.

"But my focus is on coaching the team."

Howe goes toe to toe this weekend with the man he was tipped to replace at Celtic in Brendan Rodgers.

When asked about his chances of joining Celtic last summer, Howe said: "I've spoken about Celtic before in a sense of what happened.

"So I don't think we need to go into that one again."
