'I'll be back' - Nottingham Forest ace breaks silence as injury comeback continues

Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa has reaffirmed his commitment to the Zimbabwe national team.

Darikwa, who is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in the build-up to the season, is a three-cap international for the Warriors.

The right-back joined Forest from Premier League Burnley in July 2017 and was, by that time, already an international for the African nation.

Now he intends to continue playing for Joey Antipas' side once he returns from injury, a rupture to his right knee suffered on the eve of the 2019-20 season.

Zimbabwe football association resident Felton Kamambo has revealed that Darikwa has been in touch to confirm that he is looking forward to pulling on a Zimbabwe shirt again this year.

The team return to competitive action in August in qualifying for the latest Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

"Just before Christmas I personally wrote letters to each and every one of the players that donned the Warriors shirt in 2019, wishing them happy holidays and the best of what 2020 has to offer," Karambo is quoted as saying to The Herald.

"The response from the lads was heart-warming.

“However, the one from Tendayi was reassuring, it’s a message that gave me hope as the New Year begins to slowly unfold."

According to website Soccer24 , the message read: “Merry Christmas to you manager.

"Tell the president thank you for the letter and I will be back in 2020 to lead the nation once fit."

Kamambo added: “Now when you lead an FA that has players who are ready to die for the nation like Darikwa, players who put their body on the line like Khama Billiat and players who wear the national shirt with pride like captain Knowledge Musona you feel like you owe the nation a piece of your skin."
