I live with my partner – what should we do financially and legally?

My partner and I have been together for nearly 10 years, and have one child. We live in a heavily mortgaged house. But we’ve never married, and don’t want to. Aside from organising a will, is there anything else we should be doing financially and legally because we’re not married?
