‘I just look at it as being there for my team,’ relates Celtics’ Robert Williams III of his nascent passing game

Fans of the Boston Celtics and the wider NBA world have begun to take note of a nascent skill starting to inch towards a positionally elite one when it comes to the Celtics’ starting center, Robert Williams III.

Timelord began showing some truly impressive passing chops last season and has added to them with increasingly difficult and impressive dimes being dished by the Texas A&M product in 2021-22. After Boston’s practice ahead of their home tilt with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, Williams was asked about the development of his passing game into something special, which he downplayed.

“I just feel like honestly, we’re all professionals,” he explained. “Whenever we need to deliver a pass we’ve got to do, that’s our job. So, as something that’s special … I just look at it as being there for my team.”

“I can honestly say I’ve always loved passing the ball,” he added, “so I guess vision-wise, I can say I look out for things more than other people do.”

Always demure when talking about his skill at basketball — perhaps even to a fault — Timelord is far better of a passer already than he seems to admit even to himself. But, it’s getting harder for the Louisiana native to hide behind modesty.

And if we are being honest, that’s about as far from a problem for the Celtics as anyone can have.
