"I hope so" Gary Neville enjoys Leeds United's early season struggles

It's easy to forget sometimes that Gary Neville was once a huge rival of Leeds United, due to his positivity towards the club's style of play since their return to the Premier League.

However, he provided a reminder of the fact that he doesn't like Leeds in the same way that Leeds fans didn't like him during his time as a long-standing servant of arch rivals Manchester United.

The ex-Manchester United and England full back was speaking on his personal Instagram as he ran an Instagram Live Q&A session.

One fan asked, "Leeds in trouble?"

"I hope so," Neville replied, chuckling.

It wasn't long ago that Neville revealed that Leeds' famous 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2010 was the worst performance of his career and a moment that he knew he had to retire in the near future.

On that day, Jermaine Beckford scored a first-half goal to give Leeds the victory, despite the Whites being in League One, whilst Manchester united were the reigning Premier League champions.

Neville's comments yesterday came with Leeds being leapfrogged in the table by Southampton, who won 1-0 through a goal from loanee Armando Broja.

Leeds were without six first-team players but Marcelo Bielsa refused to accept the claim that injuries were the reason for the loss and particularly not the reason why they only had 3 shots with none on target as he said, " I don't link the quality of our game to the absence of our players."

Leeds could be overtaken in the table by Newcastle and fall into the relegation places today if the Magpies can defeat Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park.
