'I held my little brother's hand as he died': Sister of young man knocked off bike in suspected murder wants 'justice for Luke'

The grief-stricken loved ones of a young man who died after he was knocked off a motorbike by a car in Salford - in what is believed to have been a targeted attack - say they want justice.

A murder investigation is underway following Luke Fleming's death. He bravely clung to life for six days in hospital.

He has been described as a 'loving family man with an infectious smile'.

Luke's sister Katie said the 20-year-old, from Little Hulton, was a passenger on the bike being ridden by a friend when it was hit by a blue Fiat.

CCTV footage showed both the bike and car smash into a fuel pump on a petrol station forecourt on Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton.

Luke was dragged along the ground and after the impact, Katie said the occupants of the car got out and kicked his body as he lay helpless and seriously injured before they ran away at around 9pm on Saturday, May 11.

He was taken to Royal Salford Hospital, but sadly passed away in the early hours of Friday.

Mum-of-two Katie, 23, said she was holding his hand at the time.

In a heartfelt plea on behalf of the family, she urged anyone with information to come forward and speak to police.

"They wanted to hurt him - and they killed him," she told the Manchester Evening News.

"They wanted to do what they did. If anyone has any information, we want them to come forward to ease the family's pain.

"We just want justice. We want justice for Luke."

Katie, who lives in Essex, said Luke and a friend who was riding the bike were travelling to meet friends.

His 23-year-old pal, who was also thrown from the bike, was located by officers later and treated for minor injuries.

Katie said: "It was not Luke's bike and he was not driving.

"He was the passenger. We have been told there were three occupants in the car.

"They hit the bike with the car, then got out of the car and started to kick Luke as he was on the floor. They wanted to hurt him - the intent was there."

The blue Fiat Sedici hatchback was left at the scene.

Police haven't released any further information about the car, but confirmed the occupants and the driver ran away.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but was later released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Katie paid tribute to a loving family man with an infectious smile.

"Luke had the best manners and was so polite," she said.

"He also had the best smile and giggle. When he smiled and laughed you could not help but smile and laugh too.

"He loved his family and his two best friends, Martin and Lewis, were also his family. He was loyal to everyone.

"We just do not know what to do. My little brother is dead. I was holding his hand, but he just could not make it.

"He did nothing to deserve this. He was only going to meet some friends.

"We just want these people caught and and anyone with information, no matter how small or large, to tell the police.

"We are all just devastated."

Katie also thanked staff and doctors at the hospital for their care and compassion.

"They gave Luke the care that he needed in his final days. They were amazing with him and us," she said.

"Their care helped the family a great deal."

"The car was deliberately driven into the bike and this is a murder investigation because they tried to kill him, and they did kill him.

"We were meant to grow up together but now the family is without him. Please help us get the answers we need."

Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson said: "My thoughts are with Luke's family at this devastating time.

"I would like to reassure them that we are doing all that we can to find them the answers they deserve. Our investigation has now become a murder enquiry and we are currently continuing to trawl CCTV to piece together the moments leading up to the collision.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has any information which could help us with our enquiries."
