"I heard someone shouting 'he's got a knife!'" - Actor claims he rugby-tackled machete-wielding robber to the floor outside a shop in Stockport

An actor claims he rugby-tackled a machete-wielding robber to the floor outside a shop in Stockport.

Jake Parr said he sprang into action after spotting a shopkeeper wrestling with the armed assailant in Little Underbank on Monday afternoon.

The member of staff and the attacker emerged in a struggle from a gift shop called Kitraco.

Jake, 31, from Davenport, claims the shopkeeper's thumb was badly cut during the incident.

"I heard the shopkeeper shouting 'he's got a knife, he's got a knife, call the police'", said Jake.

"Then I saw the guy and the shopkeeper come out of the shop and into the street.

"When I saw the knife I just ran over and rugby-tackled him to the ground. I didn't even think about it.

"The knife was big. It must have been about 30cm long. It was a machete.

"The shopkeeper's thumb was really badly cut. It looked like he had tried to defend himself and had been swiped at with the knife.

"We restrained the guy until the police arrived. They thanked me for what I'd done."
