Danny Rohl has revealed he hasn't spoken to James Tavernier since their farewell fallout.
Rangers legend Tavernier was not involved in the final match at Ibrox last season after being informed he would be on the bench.
The right-back was presented with a gift by John Greig before the match but did not feature after Rohl had informed him he would be on the bench and only make a cameo appearance.
In an interview with The Daily Record, Rohl has now addressed the situation, which he branded "so unnecessary".
He said: “After 10 years at Rangers, to have such a goodbye – it was just so unnecessary. It was not nice.
“I haven’t spoken to Tav since.
“And it’s sad because he was my captain, my trusted person.”
According to Rohl, Tavernier had thought his season was over following the match against Celtic, but the German coach claims he told physios the captain had to make the match against Hibs to make a farewell to supporters.
However, the situation exploded into a major inquest as it emerged Tavernier would not be part of the squad, with fears he wouldn't even attend the stadium.
Rohl said: “I spoke to him and the physios and said: ‘Guys, he has to make the last game at home, maybe not as a starter but he should get some minutes out in front to say goodbye’.
“On the Tuesday at training, you see who are the starters and who is not.
“I messaged or made the call to say: ‘OK Tav, you will be part of the game but will not start’.
“For me, it was clear. He would get his ceremony before the game and hopefully take his family out with him.
“He would get 10 or 15 minutes at the end of the game, get his flowers and have a happy day without negative emotion.
“But the Wednesday was a difficult day. Probably the most emotional day for me at Rangers.
“At our 4pm meeting, Tav said he wouldn’t be coming to the stadium."
