'I have no doubt!' - Chelsea fans send clear message after Thomas Tuchel's bold half-time call

Chelsea supporters have sent supporting messages to Saul Niguez after the new signing was taken off at half-time on his debut.

The Spain international, who was signed by the Blues on transfer deadline day last month, was named in the XI to face Aston Villa by Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel's side won 3-0 thanks to two goals from Romelu Lukaku and one from Mateo Kovacic, but it was not an ideal debut for Saul.

The 26-year-old gave away the ball a few times in the first-half and looked as if he was struggling with the intensity of the Premier League - and it appeared that the Villa players were somewhat targeting the midfielder.

Chelsea supporters have now taken to Twitter after Tuchel's decision to replace him for Jorginho at the half-time break and they have sent the Spaniard some supportive messages on the social media website.

Speaking about the bold call to replace Saul just 45 minutes into his Chelsea debut, Tuchel explained why he made the decision.

The Blues boss said in his post-match press conference: "It was a hard decision. He was struggling and I take responsibility for that.

"I put him into a difficult match after the international break and it was hard for him to adapt to the physicality and, in general, I had the feeling he struggled with the intensity and pressing with Aston Villa.

"It was also hard for him to adapt to our system and principles. So we thought, to give a bit more stability, we would change the shape to 5-3-2 in the second half with Jorginho.

"It was a tough one but he can accept that it is my responsibility and it's maybe also normal.

"In training, it looked like he had no problem to adapt but that's training.

"The game was very intense today because that is what Aston Villa made of it.

"The guy struggled a bit, there were some easy ball losses which is very, very unusual for him.

"That is why we decided before he lost more confidence that we make the change."

Debuts like this have happened before and it would be wrong to solely judge Saul from his performance against Villa.

The Spain midfielder will be hoping Tuchel gives him another opportunity to impress next week when Chelsea start their defence of the Champions League trophy in their opening group stage clash with Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg at Stamford Bridge.
