Reshma had never been outside India before. So when she found herself in Thailand, carrying a tiffin box full of homemade puran poli and trying to figure out how to spend a day alone in a country where she knew nobody, she wasn't exactly feeling adventurous.
She was nervous.
The domestic worker, who travelled to Thailand with content creator Anish Bhagat, recently shared what happened after he gave her an unusual challenge: spend an entire day by yourself and do whatever you want.
There was just one problem.
"I have never thought about what my interest is. I never got time for that," Reshma admitted in what she described as her first vlog.
For a moment, she seemed unsure where to even begin.
"I am just a house help; I don't know anyone here, neither do I understand their language, nor do I know how to read," she said.
Then she landed on an idea.
If she didn't know the language, maybe food could do the talking.
"I know how to cook. So, I have made puran poli that will help me make friends."
And with that, she stepped out.
Wearing her favourite saree and carrying the tiffin box, Reshma headed into Bangkok on her own. One of her first stops was a temple, where she approached a German tourist and offered him some of the sweet flatbread she had brought from home.
The exchange lasted only a few moments, but for Reshma it felt much bigger.
"I was very scared. I have never gone out without a man," she said.
As the day went on, the fear slowly gave way to curiosity.
At a 7-Eleven, she met a woman named Popo, an influencer who struck up a conversation with her. Before long, Popo had invited her home for lunch.
The two spent time talking, eating together and getting to know each other despite coming from completely different backgrounds.
Somewhere during those conversations, Reshma shared a thought that resonated with many viewers.
"Don't know why we women often forget about ourselves due to responsibilities."
It wasn't presented as a lesson or a speech. It sounded more like something she had realised while finally having a day to herself.
Later, she sat down with a book — something she said she had only seen people do in movies — and treated herself to mango sticky rice.
Nothing dramatic happened.
No life-changing revelation. No elaborate travel itinerary.
Just a woman spending a day alone, trying new things, talking to strangers and discovering that she was capable of more than she had given herself credit for.
By the end of the vlog, she was riding a car with her hair out in the air flying freely.
"This is so beautiful," one person wrote.
Another said they became emotional watching a small moment in the video.
"I had this moment of awww and water in my eyes when you opened your hair in the car didi.. I hope you have tons of fun and discover a new you in this trip.. sending you so much love."
Others called it the "most wholesome travel vlog ever", while one viewer wrote, "This is VERY sweet and the only kind of vlog I like."
A comment that appeared repeatedly focused on a brief scene that lasted only a few seconds.
"The way she Opened her hair in the car... a free butterfly indeed."
For many people watching, the story was never really about Thailand.
It was about seeing someone who had spent much of her life looking after others get a day that belonged entirely to herself.
