'I have a big decision to make' - Dylan McGeouch on his Sunderland future

Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch admits he is weighing up his future following a season on the fringes of the Black Cats first team.

The Scotland international, 26, arrived from Hibernian last summer as one of Jack Ross' key signings, but has been unable to establish himself in the side on a regular basis.

Lee Cattermole's expected departure 12 months ago didn't materialise, while the likes of Max Power and George Honeyman were preferred in the central midfield role, limiting McGeouch's gametime.

And while the former Celtic man insists he doesn't regret coming to Wearside, he acknowledges he needs to consider his future.

“I have a big decision to make. It’s disappointing I haven’t played as much as I’d have liked," he told the Scottish Sun.

“I’m fit and feel good and I felt I could bring something to the team on Sunday (in the League One play-off final).

“I expressed that to the manager, but he can only pick 18 players.

“I’ll see where my future is at and take it from there. It’s been a stop-start campaign, but I’ve been available for the majority of games. I’ve only played a handful.

“I’ve had wee niggles, but I’ve just not had a lot of game time.

“I’m going to go away over the summer and reassess things and see where we are.”

Despite only starting 14 League One games all season, McGeouch says he hasn't ruled out being successful at the Stadium of Light, and that the move was the right one for him.

“I still think it was the right move at the time," he added.

“The manager gave me a game initially, and if I turned back the clock I’d still come here.

“I haven’t given up hope of making it here. I still believe I can play a part in helping Sunderland be successful."
