I have two cats and really wanted natural ant killers to work for easy and safe pest control in my house. However, after spending eight weeks battling stubborn ants slipping under my front door, I’ve turned to harsher commercial options for what can only be described as an instant and enduring success.
This $6 Terro ant killer dust, available on Amazon was like a magic wand over the persistent ants scurrying about outside my front door and constantly making tracks under it to infest my entryway.
While natural pest control methods play a part in protecting your home, you simply cannot beat a good chemical ant killer.
This ant killer powder has finally beat my entryway pest problem
There is nothing that gives me the ick more than an ant infestation, hence why I wanted to get rid of the ants in my home immediately.
I’d go so far as to say it actually gave me immense anxiety. When I found myself getting up in the middle of the night to check if my plant-powered rosemary essential oil deterrent spray had kept the ants away (it had not), I decided, first thing the next morning, I was taking the plunge with a chemical ant killer powder.
The Terro ant killer dust, available for quick delivery on Amazon worked so well that all ants were dead inside 10 minutes and over a week later, have not returned. This tells me I have hit their colony, which they had set up inside the water grate on my doorstep that prevents rainwater seeping into my home, and banished the ants from my home for good.
A particularly long dry spell where I live in the countryside allowed the colony to flourish.
What I'd tried before

As I have two nosy cats who like to sleep in the hallway, or wait there to indicate they want to snoop around outside, I was super keen to avoid harsh chemicals that might harm them, or irritate their sensitive airways.
I first, I tried cleaning the entryway, which has a pesky gap under my front door that cannot be blocked up enough with draft excluding tape to stop tiny black ants from coming into my home.
I cleaned with vinegar, as this wipes chemical trails from any ants, and stops fellow ants finding the same path into my home. This worked for less than a day.
Then I tried Dr. Killigans insect killer, available on Amazon. It’s an essential oil based non-toxic pesticide spray that should work on ants. It works when you spray it to instantly kill the ants in sight, but they were usually back within 24 hours. I also did not like the pungent smell it left in my entryway so it's not a long-term solution for me.
Next, I tried the first chemical pesticide, in the form of popular Terro ant bait stations from Amazon. I set up one by my front door, then two more around the corner where I suspected other ant colonies were set up. This ant killer did not work for me. All it did was draw the ants out more and send them scurrying around my entryway faster and in more numbers than ever.
I understand bait stations can take longer to work as the colony needs to feed on the poison and carry it back to its queen, but for me, this slow-moving chemical ant killer, with an initial surge in activity, is not for me. I wanted the ants dead yesterday, never to return!
What finally worked in just 10 minutes and provided long-lasting relief from ants, was a powdered ant killer that I squeezed around my front door, the track under my door and into the grate outside that I suspected was housing a full-on ant party.
It worked so quickly, killing every creepy crawly in a one-meter radius, not just the ants. Joyfully, the ants have not yet returned, and it’s been a week so I have high hopes to have beaten my doorway ant infestation.
Whilst this ant killer powder can be used inside, it’s not recommended around pets, so I have taken to closing the door between the entryway and my living room so my cats cannot get anywhere near the powder under my front door.
It’s such a relief to finally have these pests gone and I highly recommend giving powdered ant killer a go on a stubborn ant infestation that is giving you the major ick..
Ant killer essentials
This was the magic wand for my indoor pest problem and I wish I had tried it sooner. This will be my go to commercial ant killer from now on.
I am still keeping my ant bait stations in play as I know they will kill the queen of nearby ant colonies. I recommend using them in tandem with ant killer dust that immediately stops the problem as well.
I have used this Raid ant killer spray with great effect in the past, and it’s particularly good when a colony is not setup directly next to your door. Spraying dead the rogue ants that have found their way in, and near your entrances will keep the ants out for long enough to let slower acting bait stations to do their job.
