'I hate spending Mother's Day with my in-laws - it's such a chore, I want the day off'

A mum has shared her exasperation a the thought of spending another Mother's Day with her mother-in-law, as she 'can't think of anything worse'.

The in-law always invites them to spend the day together, but the woman is fed up with it and wants to keep the day to her husband and kids.

The mum always enjoys Mother's Day when her kids and husband spoil her and try to give her the day off - so she gets frustrated when her in-law tries to make the day all about her.

Taking to Mumsnet, she adds that her husband thinks they shouldn't spend the day with the in-law.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, wrote: "My mother-in-law has just sent me an email asking that our family come to hers for Mother's Day. I honestly cannot think of a worse way of spending Mother's Day.

"She extends this "invitation" every year and every year we get guilt tripped when we decline. I have a husband and two daughters who try to spoil me on the day by taking me out to brunch or similar. I think it's really sweet that they try to give me a day off."

She adds that her in-law can't understand why they would not want to celebrate her motherhood on the day.

"Hubby is on my side and doesn't want to spend the day at his parents', either," she wrote.

In response, the opinion was split as some agreed she should not have to spend the day with the in-law but they could invite her to do something.

One person wrote: "Can you not all go out together?"

While another stated: "She's still a mother. Invite her out with you."

But some sided with her as a third penned: "As long as your husband is sending something for her then I don't see why you have to spend the day with her. She isn't your mother."
