'I had road rage,' Cowboys LB Damien Wilson told police before arrest

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson told Frisco, Texas, police he "had road rage" after witnesses say he backed his pickup into one tailgater and threatened another with a rifle last week in Frisco, according to court documents.

Wilson, 24, was arrested on aggravated assault charges outside Frisco's Toyota Stadium the night of July 4. Police said at first that he backed his pickup into a woman and threatened a man with a rifle. No other information was released.

But a probable-cause affidavit released to The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday says a man flagged down officers in the stadium's parking lot and told them someone in a red pickup struck his sister-in-law while parking and pulled out his rifle.

The man identified the suspect as Wilson, who was walking toward the ticket counter. Wilson initially denied having weapons and "said nothing" when police asked if he was involved in an incident in the parking lot, police wrote in his affidavit. He also told police he didn't hit anyone.

After police detained him for their safety, he allegedly told them he backed into a spot and pulled out a weapon from his truck.

"I had road rage," he allegedly told police when they asked why he took his gun out of his truck, police wrote in his arrest warrant affidavit.

Police then went back to the man who made the complaint and asked him to explain what happened. The man said he and his sister-in-law were saving a parking spot for a relative when Wilson backed into the spot, while the sister-in-law was standing in it.

The man said Wilson got out of his truck with a rifle and put it in the back seat of the truck, the affidavit says. The man told police he feared that Wilson would open fire with his AR-15 if he discovered any damage to his truck.

"Wilson exhibited a deadly weapon during the commission of this assault, causing (the man) to fear death or serious bodily injury to himself," police wrote in Wilson's probable-cause affidavit.

Police haven't said whether the woman whom Wilson allegedly backed into was injured.

Wilson now faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Dallas Cowboys declined to comment on his arrest last week, saying they were investigating what happened.
