'I grew up watching him' - Gary Lineker's tribute to Leeds United legend Norman Hunter

England legend Gary Lineker is the latest footballing great to pay tribute to Leeds United icon Norman Hunter.

Hunter, who won the World Cup with England in 1966, died on Friday morning.

The club announced the sad news of his passing after a battle against coronavirus.

World Cup golden boot winner turned Match of the Day presenter Lineker has hailed Hunter as a "huge part" of Don Revie's brilliant Leeds side.

Hunter, who died aged 76, made 726 appearances in all competitions for the Whites and was an integral member of Revie’s iconic teams during his 15-year stay at Elland Road.

A number of his former teammates have already paid tribute to him with winger Eddie Gray describing him as one of the very greatest to ever walk through the gates at Elland Road.

"Sad news," said Lineker.

"I grew up watching that great [Leeds United] side of which he was a huge part.

"This awful virus was one crunching tackle too far but he’ll be biting yer legs somewhere."

He added: "RIP Norman."
