I got a lockdown Full English breakfast delivered and this is what it was like

With the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on the world and restaurants across the country closed, it's difficult to find somewhere that is ready and willing to deliver breakfast to your door.

After weeks of cooking at home, I decided to take the plunge and order breakfast from the small list of venues available near me on Deliveroo.

I stumbled upon a small cafe tucked away in the Fabric District called Fashion Hub, which had just what I was looking for.

Fashion Hub, on Gildart Street, L3, offers a range of dishes including full English breakfasts, toasties, paninis, jacket potatoes, salad, soups and sandwiches.

So what did I order?

Having been craving a full English breakfast for at least the entirety of lockdown so far, I quickly settled on my meal.

Here’s the full order:

Two large breakfasts (£7.50 each) - two sausages, two bacon, egg, baked beans, tomatoes, black pudding, potato waffle, mushrooms and two slices of toast.

Cheese toastie (£4) - combination of mature and mild cheddar cheese, comes with mini side salad and tortilla chips.

Sausage and egg barm (£3.20) - sausage and egg on a buttered barm, toast or bread.

What was it like?

Having waited just over an hour for the food to be delivered, it was to be expected that the food wouldn’t be piping hot when it arrived.

It’s only fair to put this down to demand, though, considering that Fashion Hub was one of only three restaurants serving breakfast at the time of ordering.

The breakfast, despite being lukewarm, was fairly decent, though the sausages were greasy and somewhat burnt.

The bacon, egg and black pudding were cooked perfectly and while I’d never had potato waffle with breakfast before it was a delightful surprise.

The cheese toastie was cold and the cheese was congealed, though the salad and tortilla chips were a great extra touch.

The sausage and egg barm, while sparse, was enjoyable, though being hot would definitely have made the meal better all round.

The best part of the experience was how the meals were delivered - contact free, packaged in foil tins and boxes which kept all the food separated and keeping everything as warm as possible en route.

You can order from Fashion Hub on Deliveroo.
