'I give up': Roy Keane issues damning Manchester United assessment against Man City

Roy Keane issued a damning assessment of Manchester United's performance in the first-half against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

An early own-goal from Eric Bailly put United on the back foot and only David de Gea could prevent City from storming into a comfortable lead.

However, the second goal did come minutes before the break as Luke Shaw lost Bernardo Silva at the far post and the City man poked home, with de Gea disappointing.

That left United sinking without a trace at the break and led to fears of a repeat scenario from last time out at Old Trafford, where Liverpool hit United for five.

The assessment from United fans was perfectly summed up by Keane 's own views at half-time, as he expressed his fury at the woeful display.

"Just on half time, huge goal against City dominating possession but this defending from Shaw and De Gea, not enough pressure. You have to show intensity and put pressure," he told Sky Sports.

"You’re on the ropes stay in the game. You’re like a boxer- stay in the game! I’ve been cursing these fellas for years - I give up. I give up on these players.

"These are international players, I give up. I can't understand the defending. I give up. I drove up thinking United have a chance, but unless they do something drastic it will be another four or five.

"It looks like [Jadon] Sancho is coming on, he needs to take that gamble, I think Bailly has come off. That's where they're going to be even more open.

"This is a huge 45 minutes for Manchester United and Ole, a huge 45 minutes. They have to get the next goal or it's going to get really, really ugly."
