'I get lockdown... but I get up again': Banksy spray paints new Chumbawamba-inspired artwork on London Underground

New Banksy graffiti has appeared on the London Underground - referencing the Covid-19 lockdown and featuring rats.

The artist, whose identity has long been a closely guarded secret, posted a video on his Instagram account apparently showing him wearing a face mask and painting a series of rats on a Tube train.

As he spray paints 'Banksy' on one of the carriages, the Tube announcer can be heard saying: "The next station is Euston Square."

At the end of the video, Banksy scrawls "I get lockdown" on a station wall, before the Tube doors close to reveal the words "I get back up again".

This is a reference to the song Tubthumping by Chumbawamba, that has the chorus "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down". The song plays at the end of the video.

. . If you don’t mask - you don’t get.

The video was posted with the caption: "If you don’t mask - you don’t get."

His last drawing posted on Instagram featured a black and white image showing a statue that is close to toppling backwards as four people pull it down with ropes.

Banksy, who has become one of the most prolific street artists of the 21st century and is known for his politically charged works, suggested putting the statue of Edward Colston that was torn down by protesters in Bristol back on its plinth, but with a twist.

“We drag him out the water, put him back on the plinth, tie cable round his neck and commission some life-size bronze statues of protesters in the act of pulling him down.

“Everyone happy. A famous day commemorated.”
