'I get abused by strangers in the street because I've had 7 children since I was 18'

A mum-of-seven says strangers often give her judgmental looks and make rude comments about her massive brood.

Maddie Shawcroft, 31, had her first child when she was 18, and says she and husband, Patrick, 33, had never wanted a big family.

After having eldest child, Riley, 13, in a previous relationship, Maddie felt it was her calling to have more and went on to have Daxon, seven, Elliana, six, Oliver, five, Atticus, three, Juniper, two, and two month old Rosalyn with Patrick.

The stay-at-home mum is now hitting back at critics after revealing their large brood attract negative comments from strangers.

Maddie, from Pell City, Alabama, said: "A lot of the time we get judgemental looks from people and people make negative comments which does annoy me.

"People always point at the kids and ask if I know how that happens and I say I do know and I must like it.

"If they want an awkward conversation I'll give them one.

"Strangers also ask if we have a TV and if all the kids our ours.

"It gets frustrating especially if I'm having a bad day.

"It's really hard to get the comments because it's hard enough.

"How many kids we have is a personal choice.

"I can't imagine life without my kids because I love them so much.

"I do get a few nice comments with people calling me super mum."

Maddie and site supervisor Patrick spend £250 per week on food for their big family and hand down clothes from the eldest children to help save costs.

The family also have a buddy system when they go on day trips to make sure they all stick together.

Maddie said: "It's chaotic in my house. My kids are best friends and worst enemies.

"I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't imagine my life without my kids.

"There's a lot of counting when we're out and we do a buddy system where the kids hold hands.

"The kids know that we stick together when we're out."

Maddie and Patrick met at church in 2012 and although Patrick had initially wanted a big family, he changed his mind after the birth of their Daxon.

The couple have made the decision to stay as a family of nine.

Maddie said: "I never wanted a big family. I didn't want more than three after the first I felt like I was born to have more.

Something was telling me to have more.

"When me and Patrick got married, he wanted six but after the first he didn't want anymore because he realised how hard it is.

"We just get pregnant really easily.

"Only one time without protection and we're pregnant.

"I can't have anymore kids because I've had my tubes tied but I do feel a loss with that."
