'I gave birth at 14 and I'm now expecting baby 12 - but vile trolls call them goblins'

Veronica Merritt was just 14 when she became a mum, welcoming her daughter Victoria in to the world.

And now, aged 36, she's pregnant with her 12th child - and she can't wait to meet her latest bundle of joy.

The single mum shares her hectic family life on TikTok under the username @thismadmama, but her large family has attracted some vicious trolls who leave vile comments on her videos, with some even branding her children "goblins".

Despite the negativity, the 36-year-old mum keeps her head held high and has told the New York Post that she couldn't care less what anyone has to say about her lifestyle or her family.

She said: “I don’t listen to the haters. Do they really think I’m going to be hurt by their opinions? I mean, come on!”

Veronica - who is mum to Victoria, 21, Andrew, 17, Adam, 15, Mara, 14, Dash, 12, Darla, 11, Marvelous, eight, Martalya, six, Amelia, five, Delilah, three, and Donovan, two - doesn't work and spends most of her time homeschooling her younger children, which in itself has seen her receive backlash from people who have told her to "get a real job" and send her kids to school.

But the mum, from Syracuse, New York, USA, insists it's actually "cheaper" for US taxpayers if she keeps homeschooling.

She added: “People get on my nerves when they say, ‘You need to put your kids in school and get a real job.' I’m like, ‘You’re a dumb f**k! Do you know how much it would cost the taxpayers for me to put all my kids in school?’

“I Googled it and it’s about $25,000 (£18,500) for a child to go to public school every year. It’s actually cheaper [for society] if I keep mine home.”

Veronica uses YouTube and other internet sources to teach her children and has a "relaxed approach" to homeschooling which often sees the family head outside for lessons when the weather allows.

And because she can't afford to have babysitters to watch over the younger children, she has her toddlers watch videos and TV while their older siblings go through the school day.

The mum's income relies heavily on her $2,000 (£1,480) a month in child credit payments, $1,500 (£1,110) in food stamps, and the money she’s received as part of the federal family stimulus plan - which she estimates was around $3,000 (£2,220) per child.

She also makes between $100 and $200 (£74-148) for every TikTok video she posts, and brings in an estimated $15,000 (£11,100) a year as a freelance artist.

Veronica has her two eldest children with her first husband, and her other nine kids - as well as the 12th child she's expecting - with her second spouse Marty, whom she is currently divorcing.

Neither of her children's fathers pay child support, but one has agreed to cover the family's household bills every month to give the busy mum one less headache to worry about.
