'I found out the morning of my wedding that my mum was wearing a white bridal dress'

When it comes to weddings, there's one main etiquette rule to follow - only the bride should be wearing a white dress.

It's really not that difficult of a rule to follow.

But as we all know, there are some people who simply cannot abide by the rules and love to steal the spotlight.

Well, one bride couldn't believe it when she woke up on the morning of her big day to discover that her wedding dress was going to be upstaged by her mother's outfit.

Jane Lu, the CEO and founder of Australian fashion company ShowPo, tied the knot in October 2019, wearing a white dress from her brand's bridal range.

She was shocked (TikTok)

She opted for the Fairy Tale Ivory dress, a pretty "simple" satin number which cost just under £200.

In a video posted to TikTok earlier this week, Lu showed for the first time, the moment she discovered what her mother would be wearing.

In the clip, she can be seen unzipping her mum's garment bag and exposing the dress, which she describes as being "more bridal" than her own.

The gown features white lace and satin.

In the clip she says: "Just went to look at my mum’s dress. It’s more bridal than mine."

Her friend, who is filming the whole thing laughs and replies: "She’s bought a bridal dress. Is your mum remarrying? Like is she doing the vows?"

Lu captioned the video: "I found out the morning of MY wedding that my mum is wearing a white bridal dress."

The footage also contains several photos of her mum wearing the dress at the wedding.

Thankfully Jane was able to laugh it off (TikTok)

Luckily Lu wasn't too bothered about the situation and was able to laugh it off.

But people who watched the video say they wouldn't have been able to let it slide.

One person commented: "No, I would've made my mum go and buy a different dress that second."

Another said: "Straight up I would've lost my mind. You looked amazing tho."

Someone else wrote: "My maid of honour wore white to mine... her and my ex-husband are engaged now."

A fourth suggested she should have dyed her mum's dress a different colour.

"I would have kicked off," a different user proclaimed.

However not everyone thought it was a big deal, with others saying they wanted their mother to feel like a "queen" while attending their wedding.

"My mum deserves to look like a queen, doesn't matter if it's my wedding or hers," responded a sixth person.
