I found a tranquil Merseyside park with a maze that's 'perfect for picnics'

With the sun finally deciding to make an appearance, now is the perfect time to discover new walks.

I'm so incredibly thankful to live on the Wirral because the amount of walks practically on my doorstep is amazing. During this time of year when it's a little lighter on an evening, I love to have a nice relaxing dog walk.

I do this not only to get my steps in, but to enjoy some much-needed fresh air after a long day. While on a dog walk, I stumbled across a real hidden gem park in Bebington, and now I go there every single day.

Mayer Park is described as a 'well loved' local park in Lower Bebington, which opened to the public in 1869. Built by philanthropist Joseph Mayer who moved to Bebington in 1860, the park was originally designed as a place for exotic trees and shrubs.

When I first stepped foot into the park, I couldn't believe the amount of beautiful trees and flowers in the area. Mayer Park is filled with one of my particular favourites - blossom trees - which gives the spot a magical and almost enchanting feel.

The size of the park is surprisingly deceptive, with not only plenty of space to throw your dog a ball, but plenty of space for you to enjoy nature too. To the right of the park is a separate field, perfect for energetic dogs, with the left side of the park being a central hub for all things flowery.

As the trail continues, there is more field space and gloriously old trees (filled with squirrels, much to my dog's delight). The park consists of ridiculously neat patches of flowers, which you can tell have been placed with care.

Everything about this park is neat, from the freshly cut grass to the perfectly trimmed hedges. You can really tell that this park is looked after, and that's what makes it such a great place to visit.

One of my favourite things about the park is the maze, which provides great entertainment for not only children, but my dog too. The small maze is filled with precise hedges all immaculately trimmed, with flowers for a pop of colour.

Mayer Park never seems to be too busy either, making it a great escape for those who want a quiet walk. It feature plenty of space for a picnic, or to just watch the world go by with a good book.

If I ever plan to move away from the Wirral, this park will always have a place in my heart. It's absolutely stunning whatever the season, and is just as beautiful in the winter frost as it is in the scorching summer sun.
