'I forgot my nanny's birthday so made her a rubbish card - and said my kid did it'

We can all sympathise with how tiring parenthood can be, and with so many things to keep track of on a day-to-day basis, it's no wonder that the odd event goes forgotten.

But as one mum has figured out, having young children can also be a blessing when you discover that you have forgotten an important birthday - because you can handmake something in a rush and pretend that your kid made it instead.

That's exactly what Al Bates did when she realised she'd forgotten her babysitter's birthday, as instead of sitting her child down to spend hours making a thoughtful card for her, she decided to rush it in minutes and just pretend that her three-year-old daughter had helped.

In a lighthearted video shared on social media, Al explained: "I just received a text message from my husband which is basically informing us that we've completely forgotten about our nanny's birthday.

"Those of you who might not be so familiar, or who don't have kids, will not know that it is customary to make your nanny a s**t card with your child. However, she has just arrived for work so I can no longer use my child.

"That's right. I'm going to bloody fake it."

The hilarious clip - which was posted on Al's @aldtotheb TikTok account - then showed the mum-of-two picking out a garish piece of card with flowers on it, which she taped some foam shapes onto the front of before decorating it with Peppa Pig stickers placed in random locations.

On the inside, she used a stamp tool to cover the blank space with a variety of different shapes as though she actually had allowed her daughter to get creative with the card.

She added: "This [card] looks suitably awful and something that a three-year-old would use. Now I'm just going to stick this [foam butterfly] on.

"Anyone who has got a toddler will know that they're all obsessed with Peppa Pig, so I've just found these Peppa Pig stickers that I'm going to put all over the f***er and it'll look so authentic. They go mad for it, absolutely mad for it.

"I don't know about you, but I think that looks like a three-year-old has done it."

Commenters on the video were left in stitches, with many fellow nannies taking to the comments to say they "absolutely love" the idea of their clients making rubbish cards on purpose.

One person said: "I'm a nanny and this is hilarious."

While another added: "As a nanny myself I absolutely love this."

And a third wrote: "The number of times I’ve done this."

Others, however, said that the mum had actually been too careful with the card, as none of the stickers were upside down and there were no smudge marks from the stamp.

Someone joked: "As a nanny myself, at least one of the stickers needs to be upside down and the stamping a bit smudged! Gold star for effort!"

As someone else stated: "Way too neat and symmetrical for a three-year-old!"
