'I find that horrifying' - Richard Keys and Andy Gray make Everton new manager claim

Richard Keys and Andy Gray both believe it is 'horrifying' that the primary job for the next Everton manager is to 'achieve success in a relegation battle'.

The ECHO understands that Frank Lampard is expected to be confirmed as Everton's new manager following a two-week search after Rafa Benitez’s sacking.

The Blues offered the job to Lampard after spending Friday conducting interviews with the three remaining candidates to replace the sacked Benitez.

Lampard and Everton were yesterday working on the details of his contract and the make-up of his backroom staff before a breakthrough was made in the afternoon.

Despite a bright start to the season, in which the Blues took 13 points from a possible 18, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent months.

So much so that Benitez became the fifth man to be dismissed by Farhad Moshiri when he was sacked following the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Norwich City a couple of weeks ago.

The Blues were then beaten by Aston Villa a week later and currently find themselves four points above the relegation zone.

And while former Blues forward Gray doesn't believe his old club will go down, he finds it 'horrifying' and 'staggering' the position that the Blues currently find themselves in.

“Is that how far Everton have fallen,” asked Keys on the Keys & Gray Podcast. “That the primary job of anyone coming in now is to achieve success in a relegation battle? I find that horrifying.”

“I find it staggering. I find it horrifying,” Gray responded. “I have said it all along, Everton aren’t going down. That doesn’t even enter my thought process.”
