"I find it easier to build a robot than to find a woman": Singleton's hopeful Facebook post to find love in his area

Modern dating can be a minefield, with a myriad of apps and websites all vying for the attention of singletons across the world.

But one Greater Manchester man has found a bold way to cut through the clicks and swipes of dating in 2021.

Ben Wardleworth, 44, has been single for the past five years.

Having grown frustrated with the usual dating apps, Ben turned to his local community Facebook group, Tyldesley Live.

And in the same way residents often ask for recommendations of plumbers, builders or decorators, Ben announced he was 'looking for a single lady in Astley/Tyldesley area'.

He told the Manchester Evening News : "I just got fed up of dating sites and various other apps that don't really work as they claim they do.

"I just thought about doing it off the cuff. I thought I would give it a go - there is nothing to lose.

"I wanted to find real people in the area that were of a similar mindset."

Ben says that dating apps are a 'waste of time', having worn tired of finding women who live too far away, or aren't who they say they are.

Since putting the ambitious post out on Facebook on Friday (September 3), Ben has received almost 400 comments, although he is yet to find a match.

"It seems to have attracted a lot of p***-takers," said Ben.

"There are a few people that have been mentioned but nothing really has come back at the moment. It has only been a couple of days though."

Ben grew up in Tyldesley, Wigan, before moving to Switzerland for seven years, returning to his home town a decade ago.

He isn't a fan of pubs or clubs due to the noise, but hopes he could find someone to enjoy his hobbies of walking or cycling with.

As a CAD designer, Ben is a dab hand with technology.

He knows his way around 3D printers and laser cutters, is able to make parts and prototype components, and can even design and build robotic machinery.

"I find it easier to build a robot than to find a woman," Ben added.
