On most occasions, United States President Donald Trump has taken God’s name when he is feeling vulnerable. At other times, he has remembered him while trying to corner specific people by inciting hatred in his name. This time, it is unclear why he is taking God’s name, but my money is on both.
On Monday, October 6, 2025, Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office and took questions from the press. Among a list of other things, he said, which were mostly problematic, Trump spoke of his extreme devotion towards God. Specifically, he spoke of his life’s motto and the need for him to be“good” in God’s eyes in order to “go to that next step,” seemingly referring to going to heaven and the afterlife. He said:
“You know, there’s no reason to be good. I wanna be good because you wanna prove to God you’re good so you go to that next step, right? So, that’s very important to me. I think it’s really, very important.”
Trump also delved deeper into his beliefs as he discussed America Prays, a presidential prayer initiative he launched. For those who are unaware, it is the same program that urges Americans to dedicate an hour each day to praying in honor of their country’s 250th birthday. Speaking about this, Trump noted that they are currently dealing with multiple religions. He also emphasized the importance of religion in a country, mentioning that its absence would typically mean that the place was not “good.” said:
“We’re dealing – as you know – with all of the different – and not just evangelicals, Christians. We’re dealing with lots of different faiths, religions. And I felt for a long time that if a country doesn’t have religion, doesn’t have faith, doesn’t have God, it’s gonna be very hard to be a good country.”
In other news, Donald Trump might have mentioned that he may consider pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell, a close aide to disgraced financier and child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, during the same conference.
