'I feel upset, trapped and powerless' - Alex Beresford announces death of step-grandmother

Bristol television presenter Alex Beresford has announced his 'lovely step-grandmother' died on her own tonight (Wednesday) and says it's heartbreaking he can't comfort his mum.

The ITV weatherman told his 54.9K followers on Twitter that he was unsure if he would even be able to 'pay his respects'.

It's unclear at this point if his relative died from coronavirus or another illness.

But due to the strict rules imposed during the Covid-19 lockdown, the Good Morning star is unable to be with his family during this painful time.

Sadly, his experience mirrors thousands of mourning families across the globe.

Posting on Twitter, he said: "My lovely step grandmother died on her own tonight. I can’t even go to my mums to hug her or my stepdad.

"They also can’t leave the house because they are vulnerable and I doubt they would let us in to pay our respects. I feel upset, trapped and powerless."

The news comes on the same day that the UK's coronavirus death toll peaked at almost 13,000.

And it has also been revealed that 369 people have tested positive for the deadly disease in Bristol.
