It is Armed Forces Day in Myanmar, which marks the beginning of the military's resistance to Japanese occupation in 1945.
But there will be little celebration in many parts of Myanmar, including Kachin State in the north.
There, people say the abuses committed against them by the military have been getting worse, while the world has been focused on the plight of the Rohingya in western Myanmar.
