'I fed my niece meat against her mum's wishes - I won't force her to be vegan'

A woman said that she landed herself in hot water when she was looking after her vegan niece - as she fed the youngster meat.

Sharing her story anonymously, the woman said that her sister raised the child to avoid meat but she must have become curious about it.

One day, when the woman was babysitting, the young girl approached and asked if she could try some - so she agreed, and later said she wouldn't force the child to be vegan.

But then the sister found out as from that point on the young girl refused to eat anything other than chicken, and soon the truth came to light.

"We bought our groceries and went home. I prepared lunch for her and everything was fine."

But the evening took a turn for the worse when the youngster approached and asked the woman for some meat.

She continued: "I hesitated, but I'm not going to force her to be vegan. I gave her some chicken and she loved it."

After sharing her story online, other Reddit users praised the woman for feeding the girl what she wanted - as it was ultimately her choice.

One said: "I believe your niece is old enough to have a say in what she eats. In my opinion, if they’re old enough to have a conversation, they’re old enough to decide what foods they want in their body.

"It’s a parent's job to ensure they have a healthy, balanced diet, but that doesn’t mean forcing a vegan diet on them."

And another said: "Your niece is going to be in plenty of situations where she has the option to eat meat if she wants, the fact that her mom can’t deal with that is not your problem"
