'I don't want him' - Everton legend responds to Rafael Benitez manager link

But, speaking on beIN Sports, Gray was adamant that ex-Liverpool boss Benitez should not be the man for Everton.

Barnes began the debate by saying: “I could see Benitez going to Everton.

"Benitez is coming from China, and if a club like Everton came up - I think Benitez would take Everton.”

Gray disagreed, saying: “I don’t want him. He’s a pragmatist. I think Everton need someone who’s going to inspire them.

“Somebody needs to come in and lift the place. I don’t think Rafa would lift the place.

“He would stabilise it, but I watched Newcastle last season, you wouldn’t want to watch that every week.”

Barnes replied: “I think Everton are in a position now, rather than thinking about pushing on, it really needs somebody to stabilise.”

Today's defeat leaves Everton 17th in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone.

Next up for the Blues is a trip to Anfield for the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday evening, followed by league games against Chelsea and Manchester United.
