'I don't pick the England team, but he's one of the best around' - Chris Nash backs Alex Hales

Chris Nash believes Alex Hales still possesses all the qualities necessary to play for England as he backed his Nottinghamshire teammate for another chance.

Hales is in the international wilderness after his ban for a failed drugs test on the eve of the World Cup.

However, having knuckled down with Notts this season, Nash says the 30-year-old still has what it takes to win games at the highest level.

"He's got big hundreds for England, he's got T20 hundreds and he's been one of the best players in the world for a long time," he said after the pair put on a stand of 165 to beat Middlesex by 10 wickets in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

"It's great to bat with him. It's the first time I've batted with him, but it was a lot of fun.

"I don't pick the England team, but he's one of the best around.

"He's a true batter. He's one of the best there is and the shots against Middlesex showed that.

"He's not just a Twenty20 slogger."

The duo will be hoping to shine at Finals Day with Notts the 2/1 favourites to lift the trophy with bet365.

Nash though says such tags are irrelevant, with Notts facing Worcestershire in the first semi-final at 11am on September 21.

"It's all on the day now. If you perform well twice you've got a chance," he said.

"I know that's a cliché, but that's what it comes down to."

Hales will play for Notts at Finals Day, but is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League for Barbados Tridents.

He got off to the worst possible start when he was bowled for a golden duck in his first game as the Tridents lost to Amazon Warriors by 47 runs.
