I don't need hype to fuel my boxing career - Caoimhin Agyarko

Caoimhin Agyarko says he doesn't need any hype to fuel the early stages of his pro career.

The Belfast middleweight has eased to six straight wins since stepping into the paid ranks back in August 2018.

He has been mainly campaigning across the water, with five of his six fights coming in England.

His sole fight in Belfast was in June last year when he beat Paul Allison at the Ulster Hall.

Agyarko accepts he might not have the profile of some of his rivals, but he believes his boxing talent will write its own headlines in the months and years ahead.

"I fought at the Ulster Hall last June. That was my first time fighting there. I was hoping to fight in June back home, but that won't happen because of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said of his nomadic career s far.

"In general, in the boxing world, there are a lot of fighters who are hyped up. And I am not hyped up as much.

"But I am not really focused on that. I have always said I will create my own hype, I will show people how good I am instead of needing people talking about me.

"I know for a fact that there are some boxers in my division who are nowhere near my level, but they're getting hyped up.

"I want to show people how good I am, the hype will write itself. Sometimes when people are tipped to do well, they crash and fall. I am not that kind of person."

A promising amateur, Agyarko has made the transition to professional boxing appear seamless.

As well as harnessing the talent which should take him far in the fight game, he insists he also has the temperament to handle the pressure of big time boxing.

"If I am expected to do well, I will do well. I won't fold under the pressure. Some people crumble, I don't," he added.

"I will let the public know how good I am by performing in the ring.

"Other boxers have flown under the radar in the past and won world titles. So it isn't much of an issue.

"I have a good fan base back home, but I had to go across the water and get experience and train away from home.

"Hopefully in the long run it all pays off."
