'I don't know who Garry Monk is' Gjanni Alioski's singular focus ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash

Gjanni Alioski admits he does not know who former Leeds United boss Garry Monk is but that he will not make it easy for the Sheffield Wednesday manager when the two sides meet this weekend.

The Whites welcome the Owls to Elland Road for a Yorkshire derby on Saturday, with the latter only trailing Marcelo Bielsa's team by a point heading into the encounter.

United dropped points on the road against Preston on Tuesday when Eddie Nketiah was forced to rescue a late draw, while Wednesday cut the gap with victory over Stoke.

Ex-Leeds coach Monk, who took the club within a hair of the Championship play-offs during his lone season in charge, is looking to steer his new side to the Premier League at the potential expense of his former outfit.

Speaking to the press following the trip to Deepdale however, Alioski stressed that United are more than up for the challenge of a local encounter and will give their visitors a rough ride when they travel up the M1.

"It’s a Yorkshire derby. Sheffield know what will be in Elland Road and it will not be easy for them," the Macedonian stated.

"If we play like we always play at this high-level. It’s only if we score the first two chances I think for Sheffield Wednesday. We know they’ve had a good start, but Sheffield Wednesday need to know who is Leeds United.

"To be honest, I don’t know who is Garry Monk and I don’t watch what start he has.

"I know what team we are and what coach we have and how important he is for this team, he will prepare us for every game, and I will have a lot of information about Sheffield from the staff here, but it doesn’t matter what Garry Monk will prepare against us.

"I have a lot of information from Bielsa so I will prepare good for this Yorkshire derby."
