'I don't know what they want from Steve Bruce' - Danny Murphy's message to Newcastle fans

Danny Murphy has blasted Newcastle fans and claimed he doesn't know 'what they want' from Magpies boss Steve Bruce.

Bruce had been facing criticism for Newcastle's performances and style of play this season heading into Friday's clash with Crystal Palace.

The statistics made for grim reading with United near the bottom of the table for almost every offensive statistic but Bruce's side offered the perfect response at Selhurst Park.

Bruce ditched five at the back and lined up in a more conventional four-four-two and although Karl Darlow had another busy evening, Bruce's tactical tweak paid dividends.

Callum Wilson opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the season and it was quickly followed by Joelinton's first Premier League goal of the season as Newcastle sealed a 2-0 win over their hosts.

It lifted Newcastle up to 12th in the Premier League table and seven points clear of the relegation zone and former Liverpool and England midfielder, Murphy, fails to understand why Magpies fans have been so frustrated this term.

“I don’t know what they want from Steve Bruce," Murphy told Match of the Day.

"He has to be pragmatic with his squad, he hasn’t got a lot of money to spend, he has made some superb signings, look at where they are in the table and look at what he did last season.

“I think he deserves great credit."
