'I don't know what disease they're carrying' - some Dubliners not in a hurry to shake hands again

After the majority of Covid-19 restrictions were scrapped last week, life in Ireland is starting to get back to normal.

And while most people are overjoyed that the pandemic seems to be coming to an end here, many still have reservations and fears about Covid-19.

Shaking hands was once an everyday part of Irish society but has become a rarity over the last two years.

We spoke to Dubliners about whether or not they'll return to hand shaking and they had mixed opinions on it.

One person told Dublin Live: "No I wouldn't shake anybody's hand because I don't know what disease they're carrying."

Another commented: "No not really, I'd still do the fist bump, that's about it for now."

Another Dubliner said they are fine with shaking their friends' hands but not strangers.

"I'd be comfortable shaking hands. I shake hands with my friends all of the time so I don't really mind. People that I'm close with yeah but not really random people."

One man said he has no problem shaking hands now.

"Yeah, I don't really care. It's over now so I just want to live life."

Other people said they still have reservations about hand shaking.

"I think it's a bit iffy. Like I'd give someone a knuckle bump but shaking someone's hand, you're getting the germs all over you so maybe sometime in the future."
