'I don't feel safe in my own home': Wallsend mum comes home to find house and car targeted by vandals

A mum is today living in fear after her home was targeted in a mysterious vandalism attack.

Amanda Glen returned home from the pub at just after midnight on Sunday to find her house and car windows had been smashed.

She neighbours told her the vandals had struck sometime between 10.30pm and 11pm on Saturday.

Amanda, who runs a hair salon in Wallsend town centre, reported the damage to police, and council staff came to board up the windows of her home, on Wiltshire Gardens.

And today as officers hunt the culprits, Amanda has told the Chronicle how she no longer feels safe in the house she has lived in for 11 years.

The 54-year-old said: "I have got absolutely no idea who could have done this or why. I just keep thinking, can you not feel safe in your own home anymore. I'm just worried because I don't know if they are targeting me or if it's just a mistake."

Amanda lives at the semi-detached property with her daughter India, 23, 21-year-old son Ivan and dog Fluke.

On Saturday night she went to the Powder Monkey for a meal before returning home to find the damage.

"I was just completely shocked," she said. "I just don't know what it was all about."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 11pm on Saturday (November 16), police received a report of criminal damage at an address on Wiltshire Gardens, Wallsend.

“It was reported that windows of the property and a car that was parked outside had been smashed. The offenders had then made off.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 62 171119 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
