'I don't care' - Ibrahima Konate explains why Liverpool training is putting him to sleep

Ibrahima Konate admits the intensity of Liverpool's pre-season training camp is putting him to sleep at night.

The Reds are on the final leg of their four-week retreat having moved from Austria to the French town of Evian on Saturday.

Konate, a £36million summer signing from RB Leipzig, has been experiencing his first taste of working under Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff.

And the defender has no issue with the standard expected on the training pitch.

“For sure (it’s tough), but I don’t care about this," he said.

"We are here, we are a good and big team and we have to run and we have to win the intensity in the games. For this, the training is hard but when the work is hard we will be better.

“I’m sleeping well because I have to sleep and don’t have a choice!

"When I go to my bed I am tired and I have to sleep. I sleep immediately!”

Konate has started to forge a centre-back partnership with Joel Matip during recent friendlies, and is expected to feature in one of Thursday's two 60-minute games against Bologna before Liverpool return to Merseyside.

And speaking to liverpoolfc.com, the 22-year-old added: “I am very happy to be here with the team, I am very happy to start my first minutes with the team.

“I have a good relationship with all the players in the team and for this, I am very happy to be here.

“I can speak French with some players, but I can also speak English with other players – and German, too.

"It is easy to speak with the players and communicate, I don’t have a problem with this.”
