'I don't believe you' - Tottenham fans agree as Harry Kane breaks silence on rumours

Tottenham fans reacted furiously to Harry Kane’s decision to issue a statement on his failure to return to training earlier this week.

The Spurs striker was originally meant to return to Tottenham training on Monday for pre-season tests, with the club’s opener to the new season just under a week-and-a-half away.

However, he failed to show, earning considerable criticism from supporters with rumours of a move away from north London growing stronger.

Kane was forced to react to the criticism as he issued a statement via his social media pages.

It read: "It's almost ten years since I made my Spurs debut. For every one of those years, you - the fans - have shown me total support and love.

"That's why it hurts to read some of the comments that have been made this week, questioning my professionalism.

"While I won't go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train.

"I will be returning to the club tomorrow, as planned. I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the relationship that I have with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club.

"This has always been the case as it is today."

A surprising majority of Tottenham fans were critical of Kane once more for his timing in the release of the statement.

Here are the best responses from Twitter:

Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham throughout the summer, with Manchester City emerging as the clear favourites for his signature.

However, they are yet to lodge an acceptable bid for his services and the England captain remains a Spurs player.

He still has three years left to run on his current deal in north London.
