'I don't agree' - Everton star Andros Townsend dismisses Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi claim

Andros Townsend has commented on the quality of Mo Salah and taken a light-hearted dig at talkSPORT pundit Jamie O'Hara in the process.

The Liverpool star was on the scoresheet once again as his side drew 2-2 with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, scoring a fantastic solo effort to put the hosts 2-1 up at Anfield at the time.

That later prompted Jamie Carragher to claim that the Egyptian international was currently the best player in Europe, as he sits atop the Premier League's top scorers with six strikes to his name so far this season - along with three assists.

O'Hara later claimed that Salah was the closest thing the English game had to Lionel Messi, but Townsend was having none of that when speaking to talkSPORT on Monday morning.

When asked about Carragher's comments, the Everton winger responded: "He's [Salah] definitely up there, that's for sure!

"I don't agree with Mr Clickbait saying he's the closest thing we've got to Messi. I don't agree with that!"

Townsend was also asked about the match in general, which saw Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola's squads involved in a brilliant match filled with top quality goals.

Sadio Mane and Salah were on target for the Reds with Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne found the back of the net for the visitors on Sunday afternoon - with all strikes coming in the second half.

"It was amazing wasn't it? The best advert you can have for the Premier League," Townsend admitted.

"It was incredible. Back-and-forth, you didn't know which way it was going to go, world class players everywhere you look.

"It was an incredible advertisement for the Premier League."
