'I ditched my friend at the airport because she forgot vital item - I don't feel bad'

Heading to the airport can be a really stressful occasion - even though you know that once you're on the plane you're en route to a lovely destination of your choice, that doesn't make it less frustrating sometimes.

Especially when you're forgetful, as realising you've forgotten anything whilst you're at the airport is enough to make your heart sink.

That's why one woman took to Reddit's 'Am I the a**hole' forum - to explain that her friend had forgotten the one thing you certainly need at the airport. Your passport.

She 'had to go home to get her passport', but she took too long and 'missed the flight' - but her friend took it without her, and said people hadn't taken too kindly to the knowledge.

She wrote: "My friend and I booked a flight to New York to spend the long weekend.

"The morning of the flight, when we arrived at the airport she had forgotten her passport and so she had to go back home to get her passport. We were already stressed for the time in regards to making our flight so I didn't go back home with her and just checked into the flight.

"She didn't manage to make it back in time and has since missed the flight. I'm now being called an absolute a**hole because I chose to board the plane without her and how I didn't go back with her. She says that it's a d*** move and she wouldn't have done that to me.

"But we already booked flight and hotel??? I don't know if I'm being the a**hole here because it's not my responsibility that she forgot her passport. Was I supposed to miss my flight also and waste my money? I don't know, maybe I’m not seeing it, am I the a**hole?"

The comments were flooded with people reassuring the woman that she'd not actually done anything wrong, and that her friend shouldn't have expected her to suffer with her, just because she messed up.

One wrote: "Not the a**hole. People who f*** up and then expect others to suffer along with them are tiring."

Another agreed: "Like, how do you not triple-check you have the three things you absolutely have to have while traveling internationally? Phone, wallet, and passport. Everything else can be replaced, but you need those three."

Someone said: "Not the a**hole, even the slightest little bit - flights and hotels cost money. Why would you lose out on a ton of money because your friend was irresponsible and left her documents at home? Your friend's expectations are whack."

"The d*** move is your friend forgetting the passport", a Redditor fumed. "Very selfish of them to say you should have had your trip ruined because of them. Hope you had a good time."
