'I didnt get a fair crack of the whip' - Abu Ogogo reflects on Coventry City spell ahead of return with Bristol Rovers

Abu Ogogo admits his spell at Coventry City did not go to plan.

The tough-tackling midfielder joined Bristol Rovers from the Sky Blues in January after a frustrating six months at the Ricoh Arena.

He made just six league starts for Coventry after switching from Shrewsbury Town last summer, and says he is pleased to be at the Gas now.

He said: "It didn't go to plan, to be honest. I started off playing but then just didn't play for whatever reason, I'm not too sure why, you'd have to ask the gaffer there.

"Everything happens for a reason, that's in the past, but I'm here now, which is good."

Ogogo feels he did not get a fair chance at Coventry, but says it is not something he is stewing over ahead of his return to the Sky Blues.

He said: "It's difficult to deal with, especially as I felt I didn't get given a fair crack of the whip.

"I can sit here and moan and complain all I like but it's not going to change anything.

"Obviously I want to go there and go and get the win."

Graham Coughlan on the amount of interest Bristol Rovers star Jonson Clarke-Harris is generating

He added: "I'm enjoying myself when I'm playing football and luckily since I've joined here I've managed to play.

"Fingers crossed I can continue to stay on the pitch and keep smiling."

The 29-year-old admits there is a special feeling over going back to an old club, but does not want it to detract from the main focus of getting three points.

He said: "It's a little bit special, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't.

"Again though it's just another day, it's a football match where you're trying to get three points no matter who it's against, I'd always play the same way.

"The aim is to get three points and I'll be trying to do that on Sunday."

The former Arsenal tranee joined the Gas on deadline day, hours before Jonson Clarke-Harris also made the switch from the Sky Blues.

How journeyman Jonson Clarke-Harris finally found a home at Bristol Rovers

He says it has been easier to settle in at Rovers having a former teammate joining at the same time.

He said: "Obviously before I signed I knew a few of the lads here from playing with them, like Alex Rodman and Alex Jakubiak, but it's easier when you've got an ex-teammate coming in.

"When I got the phone call from Jonno that he might be signing, I had my fingers crossed it would get over the line."

Ogogo can offer a unique insight into his former club, and says that there are threats all over the pitch for the Gas to watch out for.

He said: "They're a good team, they've got good individual players and there's a few we need to look out for.

"Luke Thomas, cutting in on the right with his left foot is dangerous, Jordy Hiwula on the other side, he's their top goal scorer.

"They've got good players all over the pitch, Tom Bayliss in midfield makes runs all over the field and needs to be tracked so they've got dangers everywhere."
