'I didn't see it coming' - Newcastle fan on being struck by corner flag celebrating Isaac Hayden's goal

The Newcastle United fan who went viral after being struck in the most painful area by a corner flag at St. James' Park while celebrating Isaac Hayden's winner against Chelsea has spoken about the incident.

Videos of the celebrations following the goal that came deep into stoppage time on Saturday spread quickly across social media, with many finding the clip amusing.

However, that wasn't the case for the supporter who was struck by the flag as he brought a swift end to his celebration of the goal - but he insisted the three points were the most important thing.

"The moment of the goal as everyone knows it, the 94th minute or whatever it was, the crowd went up so I thought I'd give myself some room to celebrate, my seat's on the end so I stepped onto the stairs," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm cheering my head off, next thing I knew I'm bent over double. I wasn't quite sure what happened then I saw the corner flag bouncing down the steps. I tried to keep on celebrating but I just couldn't, I had to sit down. That was it, I couldn't keep going.

"It happened all so quickly but I just remember thinking that I didn't see it coming, hands in the air cheering Isaac Hayden, the next minute, gone. But absolutely, three points is the most important and I'm still intact so that's the main thing."
