‘I did not lie!’: Mom finds questionable tactic to get daughter to be honest, gets accused of ‘damaging’ the child

One mother on TikTok can’t decide whether she’s a good parent or a bad one after coming up with a genius way of getting her daughter to tell the truth by fooling her with a regular set of headphones.

Sometimes parenting is hard work and sometimes it requires a little bit of trickery, like telling your kids that the ice cream truck only plays music when there’s no ice cream left. Children can be pretty gullible and smart parents will know how to use that to their advantage. In this case, a mother by the name of Kalee, was trying to get the truth out of her daughter and convinced the young one that a pair of headphones was actually a lie detector.

She shared a snippet of the ridiculous interrogation on TikTok and the video quickly went viral, amassing over 6 million likes and 43 million views. Kalee’s daughter can be seen wearing the headphones sideways on her head as her mom asks her, “did you write on the table in the living room?” Her daughter claims she didn’t but Kalee tells her that the lie detector detected a falsehood.

This is years old and we still laugh about it to this day, including the child getting the lie detector test done! 😂 #prank #prankvideo #kidsoftiktok #parenthack

Kalee jokingly writes in the caption that she can’t decide whether her deceit makes her a good or bad parent. While I don’t know the answer to that, it sure does make her a funny parent.

Does Kalee get the TikTok approval?

Plenty saw it as lighthearted and funny, “Idk about yall softies but this is hilarious to me,” wrote one commenter. Others jokingly suggested that the young girl “lawyer up” before agreeing to a lie detector test, while some shared their own white lies they’d tell their kids, “convinced my kids when they lie there ears would turn red.” One person claimed.

However, many also thought that Kalee’s interrogation tactic was manipulative and potentially harmful as the girl became visibly upset when accused of lying. “This made she sad. What if she really wasn’t lying[?]” asked a viewer. Another added, “I think maybe you didn’t intend for it to go badly but based on her reaction, its not a good move and is damaging.”

Kalee made a second video responding to the commenters who were concerned with the questionable tactic. In it, we see that her daughter is much older now, Kalee asks her a few questions and together the mother and daughter prove that there was no lasting damage done and no trauma from the mostly harmless prank. One viewer did ask who wrote on the table but Kalee’s response was that it must have been a ghost.
